Solari’s Umbria-Heart of Italy with Terrie & Keli

Umbria…as Italy once was. Immerse yourself in a region that clings to the old and best way of doing things. Craftsmen continue to maintain standards from a bygone age, and farmers work the land where organic agriculture survives more than anywhere else in Italy. Umbria’s famed olive oil, wine and prosciutto are the base ingredients of ancient, simple and wholesome culinary traditions along with their pasta varieties from the best wheat. Terrie Viets, owner of Solari, and Keli Sim DeRitis, owner of Poggi Bonsi Gifts, will be your guides as you experience life in a luxurious villa, meals prepared by our personal chef, excursions to breathtaking destinations, and newfound friendships. Between them, Terrie and Keli have visited Italy almost 50 times and have extensive knowledge of Italian culture, its history of artistic craftsmanship, as well as its fabulous food and wine.
Our home for the week will be the exquisite Villa Vernazzano situated in the hills overlooking Lake Trasimeno just west of Perugia. Each double-occupancy bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom. Exquisitely decorated, Villa Vernazanno will provide the perfect retreat after our daily tours. We will also enjoy a cooking class at the villa with our chef and a dinner prepared in the outdoor wood-fired pizza oven.
Among our excursions will be a visit to the Pardi linen mill and a private tour, tasting and luncheon at the Pardi winery where we’ll taste the heavenly Sagrantino di Montefalco. Deruta’s world-famous majolica holds special interest for our group. We’ll tour the 12th oldest family business on earth…Ubaldo Grazia Maioliche, our private tour being led by Ubaldo, who is the 26th generation of his family at the helm. We’ll wander the streets in old Deruta, then visit the charming church of Santa Maria del Bagno with its hand-painted votive tablets. Our group will enjoy a sumptuous lunch at L’Antico Forziere, in our opinion, one of the best restaurants in Italy. Together we’ll explore the Umbrian capital of Perugia…see the underground Etruscan foundation the city is built upon and taste the chocolate they are famous for, discover Orvieto and its magnificent duomo or Assissi and St. Francis’ Basilica, experience the incredible alfresco sculptures of Brufa and add as many other of Umbria’s highlights and gorgeous hilltop towns as possible…Spello, Todi, Torgiano. La Scuorzola, the mystical and surrealist architecture compound that originated as a 16th-century monastery, is sure to amaze.
Transportation from and to Rome airport and daily transportation.
6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 6 dinners plus local wines. Many of our meals will be prepared by our personal chef and others will be enjoyed on our field trips at local eateries.

There is one room available that can accommodate twin beds.
A $500 per person, non-refundable deposit reserves your spot. The balance is due Jan. 15, 2018. Tour is limited to 12 participants. Checks should be made payable to Solari or Poggi Bonsi, LLC, or you may call the store and pay by credit card. Trip insurance is required and can be arranged through AAA, Allianz, AXA, John Hancock or Berkshire Hathaway Travel at a reasonable rate.
